So this is what happened.
On the first leg of my flight out west back in March, I started writing a response to Brandon grading us on our quizzes (Remember that back in the olden days?), but then I got stuck overnight in Detroit, which goofed up the beginning of my trip and derailed all my bloggy plans. A quick note now: Brandon, I loved that you graded us on our posts, and you are so right that I also read Manohla Dargis in the NYT. I always forget things when I try to make lists. You guys are all … Read the rest

“You know what would be really great, though? If maybe you call me up, you ask me for coffee, we go out to dinner. Something like that.”
-Marc Maron in Louie, “IKEA/Piano Lesson” (season 3, episode 7)
So I’m love with Louie.
I’m not quite done with the first season because I don’t like to watch more than one episode at a time. I’ll be sad when there are no more new episodes, and some of them are so intense. The show is billed as a comedy, and it is funny, but it can also be very deep. … Read the rest
The Onion had this to say about the shootings in Colorado. I don’t know if Todd Hanson wrote this, but it sounds like him. (Background: Todd Hanson wrote one of the best Onion articles ever, and he was also the subject of one of the most moving WTF Podcasts. That’s a two-hour interview: the first half is interesting, definitely, but it’s the second half when you have to stop whatever you’re doing and just listen because wow.)
I’m going to see The Dark Knight Rises tonight.
John posted this in response to my post about Richard III. … Read the rest
“And as I get older, you really start to sort of realize that. Like, dude, there’s no, you know, almost there. You know, this… you’re there. This is it.”
-Marc Maron in A Day in the Life: Marc Maron
Over the weekend, I finally got to watch A Day in the Life with Marc Maron, which is part of a new Morgan Spurlock series on Hulu. It’s only about a half-hour long, but it gave me some more insight into why I love the WTF Podcast so much (Marc’s focus on coffee felt particularly familiar and made me laugh). The … Read the rest

I love Lemony Snicket, whether he’s being Lemony or whether he’s being Daniel Handler. This reminded me why, and it also made me remember that I have been waiting forty-hundred years to read this book. (WHY don’t I have an ARC? WHY???)
“I would like to rent all of these movies and also purchase all of these Skittles.” I’ve been thinking that every few days since I read this a couple weeks ago.
I watched the first couple episodes of this show while I was in California, and I keep meaning to tell you about it. Now … Read the rest

I don’t have television reception or cable in my house, so I miss out on a lot of pop culture, although sometimes Lucas helps me out. For example, he has for quite some time been singing the praises of two shows on his DVR list: Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures. He has been most tolerant of my clueless-old-lady habit of confusing the names of the two shows, even though they are “totally different,” and he very helpfully tells me about various ghosts he’s learning about.
Now it just so happens that Ghost Adventures visited The Stanley a couple weeks … Read the rest
“Most of the time I find it hard to be in the same room with you. Especially this one. Which looks like where Strawberry Shortcake and Holly Hobbie come to hook up.”
-Kurt in Glee, “Hairography”
I haven’t heard dialog this good in a television show since Firefly went off the air. The singing and dancing are fun, but Glee is so not about the singing and dancing.

However, that doesn’t mean I liked it. Here are my observations, in the form of questions:
#1 – Is Jack going to do anything right ever again?
#2 – I understand that there has been a lot of foreshadowing (and by “a lot,” I mean, “significant storylines every single season”) about the situation with Sayid, but, still, couldn’t this all just be some kind of misunderstanding? In both timeframes???
#3 – Uh, Kate? Wrong way.

Lost
I officially caught up with Lost in March, I think, and then I was watching episodes week-to-week, like a normal person. (Well, normal-ish, as I was watching them on the Internet. In some circles, that’s normal. In some, it’s weird.) I enjoyed quite a bit of this last season, except for the finale, which, when it wasn’t obvious, was kind of stupid. Well, aside from the fact that Jacob turned out to be cuter than I imagined him. Of course, the writers found a way to ruin even that bright spot for me. Jerks.
