“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”
-1 Corinthians 13:12-13 (Authorized King James)
I looked this up in multiple versions, and, per usual, the King James is my favorite. Today, I will think on charity in its original sense and all I don’t know, which, it turns out, is a lot.

I love looking things up in the OED, which claims charity in the context of Christian love to be an archaic usage; a charity is an organized way of giving away money, or *tolerance* in judging others.
Must think more upon that.
I’ve been mulling it over for a few days now, and it’s still kind of blowing my mind.
Faith and hope are passive and not centered on the present.Charity,on the other hand,is right in your face present and active. It is the very essence of love thy neighbor as you love thy self. The word has been co opted by people who want money.Thoughtful post.
Thanks, Momster!
You quoted a Bible verse! Yay!
The Bible wouldn’t have lasted so long if there wasn’t some wisdom in it. I haven’t read the whole thing, but what I have read has a fair amount of wisdom. Fair amount of nonsense, too. It’s a little like wikipedia that way.
Remember when you were a Sunday school teacher?Yet another chapter;)
Teaching Sunday School was fun. I’d totally do that again.
