“Pain comes from resistance, for me. It comes from resisting who I really am.”
-Ed Crasnick, WTF Podcast, Episode 337 (November 22, 2012)
For some inspiration, you could read Tanita’s “31 Days, 31 Deeds” post, and you could experience some amazing art and quotes over at Jules’ 2012 retrospective. You could check out the quote Penny put in the comments of my last post, which I’ve been thinking about ever since I read it.
And then, if you’re like me, you could hang around in your pajamas writing, taking occasional breaks to work on your crossword puzzle.
I may totally even take a shower soon and put on clean pajamas. That could happen.
For me, 2012 was about doing a whole lot of work to shed a bunch of things that weren’t working in my life and embracing who I am and who I want to be. I had to deal with a bunch of practicalities–my living situation, my finances, what makes unnecessary and unwanted demands on my time.
At the library, we’re working on a strategic planning process, and I’ve been encouraging the staff and the Board to start thinking about audacious goals.
My own goals for 2013 and beyond are a bit audacious, a little too audacious to say out loud. Maybe they won’t happen. Maybe they will. But I believe my life will be better for trying. I regret some things in life, but I don’t regret any of the time and energy I’ve dedicated to things that really matter.
So here it is: To 2013! To audacious goals! To things that matter!
To all of you, I hope you find whatever it is you need, even if it’s hard work. Maybe especially if it’s hard work.
