“Funny enough, I was just talking to my friend about that. Our speedometer has melted and as a result it’s very hard to see with any degree of accuracy exactly how fast we were going.”
-Del in Planes, Trains & Automobiles
If you have spent any time within a mile of me over the last six months, then no doubt you’ve heard me whine about how I had to go SIX WHOLE MONTHS without taking a vacation.*
You can tell that the SIX WHOLE MONTHS is over, though, because in the last 48 hours, I’ve bought a plane ticket and a train ticket, both of which I’ll be using before the month is out. I’m even going to a foreign country. And, okay, so the foreign country is Canada, which is only an hour and a half away from here, but still, I’m taking my passport and won’t be using my phone while I’m there. It will be all exotic. (Actually, I’ve also had this trip planned for about a year now, as I’m speaking at a conference, but I just the other day decided to take the train instead of drive because I’m spontaneous like that. Also, I learned that the train has wi-fi.)
I’m taking the plane to visit Jen, which I am so super-excited about.
It’s finally sinking in that Things Are Different now, and I have a level of freedom that I haven’t had in quite a long time.
This is exciting.
I see more tickets in my future.
*Aside from that trip to NYC to visit Jeffrey and co. in October, but that was totally a long weekend, and I didn’t actually use vacation time to do it, so I don’t think it counts as a vacation. It was a jaunt.
