RSS Feeds Freaking Rock

Okay, so I’ve had a blog for months now, but I just figured out the whole RSS feed thing today. Knowing that many of my regular readers are just as technologically-challenged as I am myself, I’m assuming that some of you *don’t* know what this is all about. RSS is a way to make it so that rather than spending all this time going to all the sites (mostly blogs) you like to visit on a regular basis, you can set up your own page deal (an RSS reader) that will give you the headlines and updates for any sites that have an RSS feed. For those of you who don’t visit a lot of sites on a regular basis, this is boring. If you do, this is REALLY FREAKING EXCITING. And, look, I have an RSS feed! There it is – right in the sidebar! It’s been there all along, but I just didn’t know what it was about or how to use it. Clearly, now I do. For those of you who Yahoo, I’ve also added an “Add to My Yahoo” button, so that you can very easily add my site to your “My Yahoo” page. If you have a Yahoo e-mail account, you have a “My Yahoo” page, whether you use it or not. It’s a nice portal you can use as the homepage on your PC and that you can set up to tell you about very useful things such as the weather, your horoscope, news headlines (dubious worth there), and which of your favorite blogs has been updated lately (very important).

Most of the coolest blogs (such as WATAT.com, LISNews, and Manolo’s Shoe Blog) have RSS feeds. Meg Cabot’s Diary does not have an RSS feed as far as I can tell, but I’ve written to the site administrator to insist that she get one. A lot of my friends who have online journals don’t have RSS feeds, but I think you guys should fix that. Sadly, I don’t know how. The only reason I have an RSS feed is, as with anything else that has happened with this web site, there it is. It’s scary to me how much I have been able to accomplish with so little technological know-how. At least I can write....
