“I Have a Bad Feeling About This”
Several concerned watat.com readers have emailed to note their disappointment that I hadn’t yet written my review of Episode III.
Let me begin with a story.
A long time ago this past fall, a friend of mine called to ask if I wanted to watch a Ewan McGregor movie he thought looked interesting. Now sometimes this friend suggests good movies such as Napoleon Dynamite or Snatch, but I have learned to do some research before watching a film he says looks interesting that he hasn’t yet seen, because these films often turn out to be things like Young Adam. The first thing about Young Adam is that it is boring. The second thing about Young Adam is that no one in it is named Adam. The third thing about Young Adam is that, I found out later, it’s rated NC-17. This is because the film is basically a string of extremely explicit sex scenes, and Ewan McGregor lets it ALL hang out. And, you know, Ewan McGregor is cute, but that is just not the sort of thing I want to see unless I ask to see it.
So, naturally, this was all I could think about every time Ewan McGregor walked onscreen in Episode III. It was very distracting.
Episode III is no The Empire Strikes Back, but it is WAY better than Episodes I and II (which are, in turn, WAY better than Young Adam). There are no real surprises. The plot and effects are solid. The dialog is, for the most part, abysmal. Things don’t really work out well in the end. Things pretty much don’t work out well through the whole thing. It’s like watching Titanic. You know the ship is going to sink, but you still find yourself sitting there hoping that maybe it won’t. And then it does and Leonardo DiCaprio freezes to death and it all seems very wrong.
Life is like that sometimes.
Anyway, I’ll probably see it in the theaters at least one more time, but, unlike The Empire Strikes Back, I have no desire to watch this film repeatedly. It’s a shame, but not a shock.
I dressed up as a Jedi. I had a lightsaber. That part was cool.

Why is he always yelling?
I still have not seen the movie and I'm sad to say it is the first one I have not seen on opening weekend, yes I do remeber the original and seeing it when I was 5. I learned that boys do not understand about women having to pee because the stupid teenage usher would not let my mother & I back in the theater after I went to the bathroom, but my father took me again so I could see it all.Maybe I'll ditch the boys and go this week.

You really dressed up as a jedi?
I have yet to see the movie yet, but I absolutely hated Episode I & II.

A girl doesn't joke about dressing up as a Jedi.
I pretty much did not like Eps. 1 & 2. 3 was okay. Parts of it were a little slow, with the fight scenes dragging on too long. The comparison to Titanic is apt in more ways than one. ;) It's worth seeing to see the story completed.
Of course, this is how I ended up seeing Kill Bill II. I saw the first one and was like, "I hated that! But now I have to know what happens!" So Tam and I went to see the second one opening weekend, and, I must say, it was far, far better than Part I. At least, IMHO.
