“I Know These Fast Cars Will Do Me No Good”
This is going to sound strange coming from a girl who is typing in the word processor on her prized-possession-status laptop that is connected to her high-speed Internet via a wireless network, but sometimes I really dislike technology.
For instance, I don’t like all these automatic features in new cars. Why can’t we just roll down the windows with the hand crank? Why is it difficult to use a key to unlock the door? I have a remote control to unlock the driver’s side door on the Escort, but it took me about four months to consider even carrying the remote around. Then it took me another month or so to work up the guts to use it. And I don’t use it at all now that the weather’s nice again. Thank goodness my windows aren’t automatic, because I really don’t think I could handle it.
And what I really hate is that feature that Dad and Tammy and Ron all have on their cars where the doors automatically lock once the car is going and don’t unlock until you turn the car off. Personally, I have never really wanted to jump out of a moving car, but I feel very annoyed that the car manufacturers have taken away my right to do so if I choose. I mean, what if Dad or Tammy or Ron suddenly became psychotic and I had to get away from them? THIS COULD BE A MAJOR PROBLEM!
Cruise control is, of course, a completely different story. All cars should have cruise control, not that I’ve ever owned one that does. But still.

I don't really like some kinds of technology, too, but I am still waiting for them to invent the completely auto-piloted car. That, or a magic carpet. That would be cool.

I'd be all over that one, too. Tammy usually drives when I'm out with her, but mostly my life now involves way more driving than I'd like to be doing. I vastly prefer being a passenger so I can look at everything and zone out and whatnot.

The Auto-pilot car has already been invented. It's at RIT. No joke. *nod*
It doesn't go very fast, and there are still a few bugs to work out, but we could see mass production of these in a decade or so.
As for jumping out of a psychotic person's car, you could manually unlock the door before jumping out. My mom's car allows a passenger to do that.

I would like to defend my locked car doors simply by saying at your age you've learned the major lessons about the laws of gravity, motion and asphalt, unlike my five year old who we all know lacks some common sense. Anyway as Sabrina already pointed out you can manually unlock the door, if you can see the orange you can open it. Lucas just figured that out two weeks ago.
