My Life is Very Exciting at the Moment...

...and I've been trying to write something cohesive about why and can't quite manage it. The biggest thing today was that I introduced the Children's Department's semi-radical plan for the summer at our full staff meeting this morning, and people were really cool and supportive about it. They asked good questions, and they seemed to be thinking it over. They nodded and smiled. They said nice things. It was so encouraging because we're making a big change, and I've been worried right along about how people would react. You know when things work out nicely, the way you hope they will? That was today. I am a happy librarian right now.

You mean, your life isn't always exciting? Do tell...what has you all a twitter?

Oh, my. You know I'm essentially totally boring, right? Here is evidence in the form of a partial list of things I am excited about:

#1 - My life is almost entirely about my book right now. I couldn't keep this up forever, but I'm enjoying abandoning little things (like eating and sleeping) and really focusing on this project that is so important to me.

#2 - I get to try out my crazy summer reading program idea, and I'm so excited about how supportive and excited my fellow staff members have been. I have wanted to do something really different with summer reading for YEARS, and it's nice to finally be doing it. I have a strong need to shake things up every now and again. It's very satisfying.

#3 - I asked for ARCs for a few books I'm excited about, and the publishers sent them right away. Yay, publishers!

#4 - I am so, so, so looking forward to BookExpo. I'm actually going to meet a few people I know from the blogosphere, plus I'll be in NYC, plus I'll be at the conference, plus I am very much hoping to see Spring Awakening.

#5 - Much as I love it, my book is going to be done in a few weeks, and I will be able to devote the rest of my summer to the pursuit of fiction and fun.

#6 - Other things on the horizon: Lynn's daughters' dance recital tomorrow, a Red Wings game next weekend, a visit from Jen next month, and seeing Chuck and Kelly at the cottage next month.

#7 - Fido.

Seriously, when Bri was dying and then for a long time after he died, I felt like I had no future. That's all changed. Life has been slowly piling up possibilities and things to look forward to. I can't tell you how good that feels. :)
