“Have Mercy, Baby, on a Poor Girl Like Me”

So I forgot to post to watat yesterday for the first time ever.

That was weird.

What makes it even weirder is that it was Poetry Friday, and I had a post in my on-going “Casey at the Bat” series all planned. I just didn’t do it.

It’s not like anything all that earth-shattering was going on yesterday, either, at the library or at home. I slept in a bit, went to work, worked, came home, did my chores, made some chocolate chip pumpkin muffins, read, and went to bed. I usually start to get a Very Wrong feeling if I don’t post to watat by a certain time in the day, but I didn’t have the Very Wrong feeling at all. I could blame Harry Potter, I guess. I’ve been obsessed with rereading the books (from Azkaban on – I’ve read those first two about a bazillion times) ever since I saw the new movie (which, by the by, I thought was nicely done – for a movie), and I’m afraid that Hogwarts is occupying a fair number of my thoughts even when I’m not reading.

I have been led to understand that some people have never even read a Harry Potter book. It’s a sobering thought, like when I realized that some people really do prefer the tangy zip of Miracle Whip. Both things seem beyond all reason to me.

Anyhoo, I do plan to continue reading at a frantic pace, but I do not plan on forgetting any more posts, which means that I also do not plan to write any more posts about forgetting to post. Maybe I’ll even post about something interesting, like the rockin’ new version of Jane Eyre I started watching today or the fact that I was recently sent an advertisement for an adult “quiet living” facility or how much trying to learn how to play the guitar is hurting my delicate fingers. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.

We missed you, Adrienne!

I can't even make fun of you for missing a day, considering how many days in a row I don't post. BTW, how do you schedule in time to post? I try and figure out when it would be best, and then a week has gone by. ARGH. Very frustrating. Sometimes I think I might even post on your blog more than I post on mine. Shameful.
Is Jane Eyre one the the library system owns, or is it on tv?
Off and on I've been trying to play the ukulele, but like all my adventures, I don't find enough time to take it too far. Funnily enough, I started a blog post on how I start all these things (writing, crocheting, jewelry making, photography, ukulele playing) and then don't find the time to do any of them. Of course I feel asleep writing the post. Gosh.

I read "rockin' new version of Jane Eyre" and pictured a very modern, very punk Jane playing the electric guitar and screaming.

I have never read a Harry Potter book, nor seen any of the movies. Ditto for Lord of the Rings. I'm not all that into magic or goblins or the like.

Susan, :) It is nice to be missed.

Cathy, If you search:

//wjane eyre masterpiece

in the catalog, you'll find it. Only four libraries own it (Evans, Lyell, Mendon, and Rush), which is shameful and -- surprise, surprise -- no one's sharing it. I got mine from Netflix because, as I am so fond of saying, it's easier than dealing with MCLS, which is something of a problem.

Little Willow, That would make an *excellent* movie, though, wouldn't it?

Jeffrey, I don't hold it against you or anything. (If you liked Miracle Whip, though, I'd completely hold that against you. That stuff is disgusting.) It's less that I don't understand people not liking fantasy (which I, clearly, love) and more that in the library/children's lit/teen lit world, this is such a very huge deal. Some of us have been waiting almost a decade to see how this all turns out.

"made some chocolate chip pumpkin muffins . . ." She says so casually.

Hello? Back up. How fantastic do those sound?! You are livin' the life, A!

I am having the same Hogwarts-brain thing you are. Been re-reading the books, just saw the movie yesterday (didn't it make you wish it were four or five hours long so they could have fit in more?), don't feel like vacuuming or doing laundry today because I want to spend more time with Tonks.

Can't believe you tore yourself away long enough to make those muffins. Talk about discipline! (See your post above re spelling bee.)

Never read a Harry Potter book. Never saw Star Wars. I think this has improved my life considerably. Our family has a very old and secret recipe for Onion Salad that calls for Miracle Whip. Sorry, when you use mayo it just doesn't taste right, but my family eating history is a little different.

Adrienne,

OK, I'm in the exact same position you are. We just saw the movie on Friday and so I am now reading the books which Madison has already finished and read to pieces, partly so that I can discuss it with her and partly because, well, HP has just gotten into my brain. I just finished #4 yesterday.

So here is a question that is puzzling me, and causing me not to be able to work effectively EVEN THOUGH it's totally quiet here and the kids are camp. At the end of #4, The Goblet of Fire, we find out that Lucius Malfoy is a Death-Eater, now hangin' with the Big V. Well, how come we get back to Hogwarts after that and everything is all hunky-dory with Draco Malfoy there? I haven't read #5 yet, only saw the movie with Madison, but I don't get it. So, since you've been rereading these, do you have any clue? What did I miss?

Heidi, Miracle Whip? Really? That's how it is with family recipes, though. Can't change them. You probably can't get Miracle Whip in Germany, though, eh?

Robin, Chocolate chip pumpkin muffins are a staple of my life, even when they're completely out of season. Here is the recipe:

I completely agree about the length of the film. I honestly don't know what's up with people who are like, "They can only make the movie so long." If they made the movie five hours long, I, for one, would sit there and watch it. As Tammy says, we'll have to wait for the director's cut on DVD.

Deb, Everyone is in Major Denial at the beginning of book five. I was pretty surprised that everyone sent their kids back to school like nothing was going on, but, then again, that's human nature, isn't it? Pretend like nothing bad is happening and maybe the bad thing will go away.

I have a headache. I keep trying to ignore it, but I note that, like Voldemort, it's not going away. Probably time to nap again.

We missed you at our 7 Kicks list. WAH!

Guess what? Your beginning reader posts inspired me to contact Frank Dormer again (illustrator of Aggie and Ben), and he's sending a never-seen-before illustration from his upcoming book (not the Aggie and Ben sequel, but that's okay) for our Kicks list (not this Sunday, but next Sunday). WOO HOO! Thanks for the inspiration.

Oh, yay to Frank Dormer! :) And I saw Matt Phelan yesterday, too -- wow! I had such a bad headache by the time I would have been able to settle down and do computer work that I just couldn't cope. I wound up going to bed at, like, 9:00. Pretty bad. I am, admittedly, a total baby, though. I don't know if the headache would have incapacitated anyone else.

mmmm... chocolate chip pumpkin muffins...

So, Adrienne, did you finished all the HP books?

Posted by: karin at July 19, 2007 04:34 PM

I spent last night watching Jane Eyre, finally getting to sleep around 2 am. I couldn't help myself. Sure, I know exactly what's going to happen and I know its going to make me cry, but it was absolutely wonderful!
Now I'll have to re-watch the other ones to decide which one I like best. They were WAY more passionate in this version than many of the other ones I've seen, and I must admit I got a little hot and bothered in a couple bits. It was nice to see the chemistry between them, and it made their connection alot more believable. Mr. Rochester was also quite the hunk! In many of the other versions, Mr. Rochester is ehh, okay... in fact, upon checking out IMDB, there really weren't many good looking Mr. Rochesters.
On a side note, I must say the British Isles makes some cute guys! I just rewatched Bend it Like Beckham (I know how old am I?) and the coach is to die for! I may have to move to England or Ireland... of course there is that little set back of my husband and my two year old. Darn.

I haven't watched part two of Jane Eyre yet (and probably won't be able to until Olivia comes back from her trip to Prince Edward Island), but I loved part one.

Bend It Like Beckham rocks.
