“More Than Meets the Eye”
I went to see Transformers yesterday. I know what you’re all thinking, but, for a two-hour long commercial, it wasn’t half bad. I’m glad to see Stanley Yelnats doing so well, the blend of CGI and live action is better than what we saw in The Matrix films (sorry, but it’s true), and there were two gratuitous uses of the phrase “more than meets the eye.” Do you expect something better than that in July? Please. Spare me. At least it isn’t part 457 of something we’ve already seen.
Of course, what was really exciting? You got it: the previews. Let me review.
The Bourne Ultimatum
I hated The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Who-Even-Cares-What-the-Second-One-Was-Called, and I resent the series and this preview for making me kind of want to see the stupid freaking third part of this franchise just to find out what the heck this dude’s deal is. Could someone please send me the Cliff Notes? 2/5 bags of popcorn. Stale, stale popcorn.
I am Legend
After watching The Pursuit of Happyness, I hesitate to encourage Will Smith to diversify his resume, but exactly how many overarching threats to humanity does this man intend to be involved in? This time, it’s vampires, and I have to admit that I was completely taken by the preview (in which the enemy looks like maybe aliens again – and, goodness knows, Mr. Smith only has, like, ten alien movies to his credit – but on closer inspection it turns out that these are vampires, which is, you know, TOTALLY DIFFERENT). Apparently this is a remake of a remake of a novella. It is also, interestingly, due out in mid-December, which is usually when they release good movies. One hardly knows what to make of it. I am apprehensive, but I’ll probably go see it anyway. I may read the novella in the meantime. 4/5 bags of popcorn.
The Movie Without a Title by the Guy Who Brought Us Lost
Go watch the trailer now. Seriously, that’s good stuff – the hand-held camera, the big explosions, the run down the stairwell, the Statue of Liberty’s head. Brilliant, brilliant. I wanted to see the film immediately, way more than I wanted to see Transformers, in fact. I don’t even care if the film sucks. This kind of marketing needs to be rewarded. 5/5 bags of popcorn.
Superbad
I saw the first preview they had for this approximately two hundred million times, but it always made me laugh. This was the first time I saw the second preview, and it also made me laugh. I swear I know that they have now shown me every funny part of this film, but I still want to see it. Why am I such a sucker? 4/5 bags of popcorn.

I'm sorry, but any movie that Matt Damon takes his shirt off is a good movie!

What?? No Harry Potter??
Please tell me you aren't slipping and you HAVE seen this...

I read an article on an environmentalist blog saying that popcorn kernels are selling for 70% more than last year because so much corn is going to make fuel now.

Kelly, Tammy feels the exact same way about it.
Sabrina, I did see HP#5, but I'm not sure what I want to say about it. I enjoyed it, though. It's always easier when one can poke fun.
Chuck, That is so weird. Tammy and I got popcorn when we went to see HP#5, and I didn't think of it as fuel at all, not even for me.

Thanks for pointing me to the JJ Abrams (LOST GUY) movie trailer. It looks very interesting.
I have been hoping to see a trailer for Stardust (www.stardustmovie.com) in theaters but haven't so far.
The trailer I see at practically every movie I have been to for months is the one for "Across the Universe". Is this movie ever going to be released? (not that I want to see it cause I dont)From the multiple trailer views it looks like an extended music video.
How can you go wrong with "SuperBad"? It has Michael Cera from Arrested Development in it!

I've seen that Stardust trailer a few times now, and I think it looks fantastic -- a total 5/5 bags of popcorn. They were showing that trailer with HP#5 at Tinseltown last week, in fact.

The JJ Abrams preview kind of disturbs me, mostly because there is still part of me that expects that kind of thing to happen everyday here in NYC. It's always a little blessing that most days, it doesn't. The I Am Lengend preview looks fun. There's nothing like a NYC disaster movie provided it isn't too realistic. Plus it makes the city look so peaceful (although slightly anachronistic because of the scene where he's knocking golf balls off the USS Intrepid deck - the ship and all its planes are off to a dry dock right now for repair).

It is very interesting to me that the I am Legend preview didn't include vampires even though it is a vampire movie. I mean, is there *anything* there that says "vampires"? I don't see it.
I guess my buttons would get pushed seeing NYC destroyed over and over. I think the untitled movie is a monster movie, though, very Godzilla-y -- and I can't take Godzilla seriously. Not that it can really be Godzilla, but something like Godzilla? See how that preview still has me puzzling?
I have a difficult time with films in which someone is dying of cancer, although I can watch them now where I couldn't for a long time. I almost had to walk out of The Fountain when I saw it, though. That wasn't such a long time ago.

Another Matt Damon movie? Yay! I second Kelly's opinion. :)
Sorry, Adrienne. I know you hate them, but I guess I'm a sucker for Mr. Damon.
