Song Meme

MotherReader tagged me for this meme approximately five hundred million years ago, but it’s better late than never and all that. When I got down to it, I was surprised by how many songs I dislike or can’t remember, but the whole thing was fun to mull over. I think I may have spent a lot of my senior year listening to Led Zepplin.

Hi Adrienne!
I love your list. I can totally see the number 1 song, given that everyone I know was crazy for the Robin Hood movie that Kevin Costner was in. The art teacher at my school even had a Robin Hood party where we dressed up as the characters. (I went as the Sheriff of Nottingham, owing to my longtime love for Alan Rickman.) And sadly, this song and the rest of the soundtrack were the music for the evening!
On another note, looking forward to seeing you next week.

Should I be frightened that I remember and know roughly 90% of these songs? And, um, liked many of them? Boston was certainly a good place to hear a lot of music. #54, Iesha, by Another Bad Creation (ABC) - was all the rage in Boston for a while. They had another hit with the song Playground. It was a bunch of children rapping. Before Kriss Kross came along (jump, jump!). Ick.

My what a sad year for music that was.

Tricia, I loved that movie ("But, cousin, why a spoon?" "Because it's dull, you twit. It will hurt more."), but not so much the song. I'm way looking forward to Chicago. I leave e-a-r-l-y Wednesday morning. :)!

Olivia, Of course you're right. Please don't hurt me. ;)

Jeffrey, Thank goodness for the Zepplin, although, seriously, "I Touch Myself" is still a really fun song.

The hell....?? Did you not get radio stations in Kendall?? I'm boggling. See? >> boggle, boggle

Oh my! "I Touch Myself" is kind of a dirty song. And here I am thinking that you are such a wholesome girl. I'm shocked! (Just kidding.)

Eeewwww, you like Poison, Tesla, and Scorpions??? (Not kidding)

I have to agree with Jeffrey. 1991 was a terrible year for music, but the year I graduated from HS, 1976, was worse. However, there were a few gems in both of those years.

In 1991:
33. Losing My Religion, R.E.M.
55. Something To Talk About, Bonnie Raitt
82. Silent Lucidity, Queensryche

In 1976:
5. Play That Funky Music, Wild Cherry
30. Love Rollercoaster, Ohio Players
59. Sing A Song, Earth, Wind and Fire
77. Rhiannon, Fleetwood Mac
80. Getaway, Earth, Wind and Fire
93. Tear The Roof Off The Sucker, Parliament

Well maybe '76 was a good year for funk.

OK, this is a bad time to admit that I graduated in the year of the British Invasion, with the Beatles et al...

Posted by: Larry at September 30, 2007 04:59 PM

I'm too old to have heard of most of your songs, however my year's list is very heavily weighted with the Bee Gees to admit to liking much of it, but at least it is familiar. (And there is the wonderful Sweet song...Love is like Oxygen). Oh I am old, but my kids are listening to these songs now ;). There are a few redeeming songs on the list, and just 4 years later (my college grad year) there are even more songs to cheer about.

Sabrina, Like I say, I was listening to Zepplin and the Brockport college station and WBER. Plus I mostly just worked a lot in 1991. Busy year for me.

Carl, It's true that I used to like those bands. Not so much now, though, except for nostalgia. These memes always encourage one to admit mortifying things. :)

Larry, You're one of the coolest people I know. It doesn't matter when you graduated.

Mary Ann, I kind of like the Bee Gees. I don't have them on my iPod or anything, but I don't change the station when they pop up on the radio.

Oh yeah! Isn't that the truth.
I got a cringe factor for ya.
Uh, eh hem... I once owned not one, but two pairs of plaid, wide bell-bottom pants with cuffs, and several pairs of those clunky-heeled clog shoe. I'm not even going to mention the shirts. Man, what was I thinking back then? What were we all thinking?

It's a great trip down memory lane, huh? (Or if not, an incredible time waster.)
