“What Really Interests Me Are the Local Gun Laws”

Over at 7-Imp, Jules is working on a multipart Holiday Titles Round-Up. Susan at Chicken Spaghetti has given us her recommendations of books for Hanukkah. Even The Horn Book is talking holidays.

While every once in a while I come across a holiday picture book I really like, nothing will ever compare to my real holiday favorite: the essay “Six to Eight Black Men” by David Sedaris. It is, in the words of the author, “the sort of narrative that ultimately makes me proud to be an American.”

Ho, ho, ho.

One time, I asked my Bulgarian fencing instructer, "What does a rooster say?" He answered with a strange noise and gave me an even stranger look. I stopped fencing shortly after that.

Santa would kick you and beat you with a stick?

When we lived in Germany, my (American) neighbor let her kids put out shoes on Dec. 5th AND have Christmas on Christmas. So I was stuck with it, too.

Thanks for the HO-LOL-HO, Adrienne. I'll be thinking about gun laws every time I'm in a taxi now.

Oh I can't wait to read this later.

I hope to review a whole SLEW 'o' Christmas PBs tomorrow. Maybe even 10, if I'm feeling ambitious. It's not TOO bad thus far, these new titles. It's slim pickins, though, generally. But I do like the challenge.

And then an ARC of Eric Rohmann's new PB, A Kitten Tale, showed up...and it's all about snow....and SO PERFECT ....I must include it in my holiday round-up some time soon.

OMG. Now my cheeks hurt. Thank you Adrienne. As usual, you have made my day.
Jeff and I have been trying to decide if its cruel and unusual to not do the Santa thing, but now we may have to do the St. Nicholas thing instead! Yay! I can't wait to see his little face when I tell him that 6 - 8 black man and a skinny white guy are going to beat him in a sack if he doesn't listen to his mommy and daddy. That beats coal any day! :)
