Lucas on Shoes
[Conversation with Lucas during our recently-reinstituted weekly breakfast at the Leaf and Bean.]
Me: Did you see my new sandals?
Lucas: [Looks.] They’re nice.
Me: I bought three pairs of shoes last weekend!
Lucas: [Raises eyebrows.]
Me: I know. Your mom was supposed to get one pair of sandals, and I was supposed to get one pair of sandals, but your mom couldn’t find any shoes she liked and I found three pairs I liked.
Lucas: [Rolls eyes.] Girls like shoes.
Me: Yeah, well, your mom and I do.
Lucas: [Rolls eyes.] I always look at the design on the sneakers before I buy them. [Shrugs. Takes sip of chocolate milk.] Did I tell you about the doughnut tree I got for my Webkinz?

I can totally relate to him wanting to change the subject when shoes come up :). I do try to be nice for a while when I'm in or around a shoe conversation, but like the man says, Girls Like Shoes. There's a point at which it becomes dangerous for us men.

Lu's reactions/conversations reminded me of yours at times--totally realizing that the proper thing to do in the situation was to dole out compliments but hardly knowing where to go from there. I do think Lu devotes some more thought to his own shoe purchases than you do, though, if only because he's growing and so needs to acquire them more frequently.

I have a Webkinz!! I do!! A lil kinz black bear... :)
My sandals are in a big black bag in a dark, dark, room....my piggies don't venture out until it's at least 80...

I have to agree with Lucas that doughnut trees are way cooler than shoes. Blasphemy, I know. I hope you'll still be my friend.

Guys just don't get shoes. I think Ken maybe owns 5 pair. I can't tell you how many Hannah, Kristen and I have among the 3 of us. He just rolls his eyes.

Cathy, Why didn't I think of that? Maybe I'll have to see about setting up a photo op.
Kristen, I also have a Webkinz. She's a white cat, and her name is Lola. I keep meaning to blog about her and Webkinz, but, seriously, I'm having trouble finding time to eat lately.
Jules, I get that. :) I'm not sure what it is about me and shoes, because, honestly, I'll also kick them off whenever the opportunity arises.
Pat, Yeah, I guess Ken's outnumbered there. :) Lucas and Ron both have t-shirt obsessions that balance out their disinterest in shoes, although it's too early to tell with Max. Mostly, Max likes to take off his shoes and socks. He started doing it pretty much as soon as he figured out his hands and feet were under his control, and he hasn't really shown much in the way of signs of stopping.
