Quotable Tuesday

“We’re sitting on a bench now, eating sausage and pepper sandwiches, and I feel like my body is saying, Where the hell are we, what the hell is going on, how come we don’t do this all the time?”
-Betsy in The Pursuit of Happiness by Tara Altebrando

Thanks for quoting me! I had to go back to re-read the passage to figure out what was going on. Funny right? I don't really remember writing that line.
Best,
Tara

Tara, Thanks for stopping by! I've have the same experience with things I've written. By the time something's first published, even, it's usually been so long since I did the final revisions that I've moved on to ten other things and my memory of the published piece is pretty shaky.

The Pursuit of Happiness is one of the more accurate depictions of grief I've ever read, by the by. Very well done. :) The thing that drew me to this passage in particular is the way Betsy's having this moment where she's suddenly realizing exactly how unhappy she's been and that maybe there's another way to behave and to feel. I can so relate to that. Plus, sausage and pepper sandwiches are awesome.

Thanks so much. That's really nice to hear. And here's a fun fact: the real-life inspiration for the character of Liza was named Adrienne! :)

Oh, that *is* cool. :)
