A First Time for Everything

I have been on planes more times than I can count, but today I encountered something in an airport I have never seen or, indeed, would have expected was possible. The Portland (Oregon) International Airport employs someone who staffs the curb area where the airport, rental car, and other shuttles pick people up. The person who was out there this morning greeted every single person who was out there, asked what shuttle they were waiting for, gave them an idea of how long they could expect to wait, and offered her assistance if the shuttle did not arrive in a reasonable amount of time.

Impressive.

PDX airport has that weird, promenade-like avenue that takes a long time to drive in order to reach the actual airport. It also means you have to drive even longer if you make a wrong turn. That said, it's far more attractive than most other airport roads/entrances. Maybe if it weren't straight I wouldn't think I was at Tempelhof.

Gee, and I thought being given flowers when we arrived in Bermuda was impressive! This is infinitely more impressive - and helpful!

At Dallas/Ft. Worth they have a billboard as you drive in that proudly claims that DFW has more square miles than the island of Manhattan. I'd love to point out to a Texan sometime that 30 Rockafeller Center is probably worth more than the entire county containing DFW, while we're measuring our things.

TOTALLY off topic, and I'm showing my age here folks, but Paul Newman is dead.He did a film in Utica,NY,and by ALL accounts,he was a regular guy.Didn't tell anyone how to vote.Didn't need an entourage. He spent his after hours time, not chasing local groupies-but having a beer at a local pub with one and all.He was a gifted actor who had no need of adulation. He was married to an equally gifted actress and remained married. He has provided safe food to the American public, and my cat--possibly your beloved dog, without taking a profit. We must thank his whole family in this endeavor. They have given soooo much money for soooo many --how to say,"So sorry for your loss..."to that family? In this moment of the triumph of greed in the USA,I intend to watch "The Long Hot Summer".Adrienne,I hope you are having fun and learning much! You too have a talent for life!Despite it all.I salute you.

Well, everything is bigger in Texas. That is apparently all that matters. Size beats substance.

They have nice people here to help you with their public transportation system, too. Wonders never cease.
