Ooh, you're going to Salinas!
There's a tiny little hamlet called Moss Landing about twenty minutes north of Salinas -- when I was there, I went to Moss Landing State Beach and saw wild sea otters, sea lions, and harbor seals. It was the highlight of my time in California; it was even more fantastic than the redwoods.
You probably won't have any free time, but if you do, stop by Moss Landing -- it's incredible!

While you're at Chuck's, tell him to respond to my email.
Also, try to stop in San Luis Obispo. Nice little town. I have no food recommendations though.

Thanks, Mom! I'm here in SF safe and sound.
Peter, Thanks for the tip! I will actually wanting to leave a little later that day, so as to avoid rush hour traffic around LA, so that might work out. We'll see how the next 48 hours goes.
Jeffrey, I will tell him, but normally he and Kelly feed me very well, so I'm not going to push it.
