"Bicycle! Bicycle!"

Today, I decided to go out for a bike ride. Through the year, I spend a lot of time riding fake bikes. I like spinning class at the Y because it burns a lot of calories, and I like the plain old exercise bikes out on the floor because I can ride them and read. But riding real bikes out in the world is so much better than riding fake bikes at the Y. Riding my bike is one of the few things in my life that makes me feel like I am absolutely entitled to act like a 10-year-old. I like to cut through parking lots and see how fast I can hit speed bumps and coast down hills with my feet kicked out to the sides. This spring, Tammy (without whom I wouldn't even have a bike) ensured that the Easter Bunny brought me a bell with yellow flowers for my bike, so now I can add randomly ringing my bike bell to my usual shenanigans, which I do.

I love summer.

Yellow flowers=the best kind of flowers.

You Know, I haven't had a bike in like decades! How sad because I used to love riding for all the reasons you described. My husband rides alot and when not with our daughter uses it as his main source of transportation when he can. I want a bike now! :) Sadly though I live in a very urban area and it's not really suitable for riding safely or I'd have to truck my bike to a park or trail or something but I like the idea of a bike with one of those kiddo trailers. That would be pretty fun.

Jules, So true, although I am also fond of purple and bold pinks.

Cheryl, Riding around with traffic makes me nervous. I would probably have a heart attack doing it if I had one of those carts or seats for a child. I remember just *loving* riding around on the seat on the back of my mom's bike when I was a kid, though. It's one of the few strong memories I retain from being very small.

Oh, man, I'm with you. I've done spinning, but it's NOTHING like riding a real Good bike.

I miss my Good bike. I have the Useful bike, with the thin tires and the hard seat and the hand brakes, but I had to sell the one with the fat tires, the basket, and the fat seat because it's just huge and heavy and two bikes each in tiny British flats just isn't feasible.

But I resent the heck out of the Useful bike now.
I want my purple wheel covers and hibiscus blossoms back. Waaa.

If I had a bike with purple wheel covers and hibiscus blossoms, I might just sleep with it in order to keep it. That sounds so entirely awesome. I'm sorry you had to part with it.

"fake bikes" - crack me up. I tried riding my daughter's bike and I could barely stay up. But, I will persist!

Enjoy riding your bike!

Vivian, Go, you! Barely staying up is still staying up, at least for a bit. It's something to build on.

I had never had a proper adult bicycle until I moved here and got one through a tax-free scheme at work, and am in love. It's black and retro and so very comfortable. And riding it is an exhilarating experience, so swoopy and fast.

I am thinking about posting it back to Australia on a ship whenever I move back, even though I am sure they sell bikes there.

Emmaco, I don't have fine things, but even so, if I had to move a great distance, I would find it very difficult to leave quite a number of them behind. "Swoopy" is a great word.

I got a bell for my bike that says, "I love my mom." I think it's pretty bad ass.

I wish I could ride bikes with you, Kelly, but it would take me kind of a long time to get to your house.
