First, is it hard to type those without correcting them? I think that would be hard on the brain.
Second, yeah, what's up with the lack of an American Girl playroom? You call yourself a public institution? Where is the service?
Third, I'd like to learn about scince back ground music, too, please. Like what that is.
Fourth, I totally agree that you need to get Disney Channel stars in there. Again, where is the service? I'm surprised those kids are out picketing every morning.
Love ya lots. Please continue being your bad, non-service-oriented self.

I sense the first and last suggestions are related somehow. Hmmm....

Robin, I do correct them accidentally as I type, so I have to proof them a couple times before I post them, to make sure they are accurate to the originals.
And truly what I like is that it's an American Girl ROOM, like I imagine "ROOM" being shouted.
Olivia, They weren't the same kid, but they must be friends, I think.

That American Girl thing is like Sciencetology...I mean, no one is getting hurt, but it is kinda creepy. I wonder why the door in the back is suddenly getting a lot of hate...maybe because of the udults. ugh, grown ups are so icky. I also have this vision of Jason entering the children's room while the theme to 2001: A Space Odyssey plays in the background.

That American Girl suggester is gonna be a librarian one day. I'd bet money.

Xandi, I keep thinking about doing an American Girl program, though. I suggested doing one this summer, but then Jason got all, "That's so girly, whine, whine, whine." I do not love the dolls, but the books aren't so bad. I dunno.
Jules, I have this image of a few of these kids getting together (some kids are serial suggesters), locking Jason and I in the maintenance room, turning on some (quiet) background music, and installing the pool, television, and American Girl room. It would be like Children of the Corn, but there wouldn't be that horrible, horrible scene with the grinder.

Xandi, that comment made me just hurt myself.

Robin, You learn to brace yourself for the laughing if you spend enough time with Xandi.

Adrienne, you should totally have an American Girl program. Jason gets to have Star Wars programs all the time. What about the girls who aren't into Star Wars? They should have fun, too.

Adrienne & Robin, you guys crack me up too! If you want to think about doing an American Girl program, I can help brainstorm - my sister ran a couple of AG programs at Liftbridge Kids when she worked there. Besides,it could be berry worse, it could be Strawberry Shortcake! ;p

Ok. This one time, at my library, I had an American Girls program and it went over like gangbusters. Seriously. Those girls are very excitable about their dolls (the books, also). Since then, I repeatedly get requests to do another American Girls program. Be prepared. At least I can relax knowing that no one's requested an AG room at my library as of yet.

I went to the American Girl store--that would be a 3-story building--when I was in Dallas a few months ago. And I was in AWE. If I were young enough (or small enough)I totally would have bought all the clothes that matched the outfits my favorite dolls wore. The whole camping setup? Come on! I need that! The horse and all the horseriding accessories? Please get that for me, Mommy!
But because I'm mature and/or wear adult sizes, I had to walk out empty-handed. So very sad.
So Adrienne, maybe you do need an American Girl ROOM, but it should be just for the adults who wish they could try on all those sporty camping clothes. I'd totally visit your library if you had that.

Olivia, You might be surprised by how many girls come to the Star Wars programs, in costume and all.
Xandi, I can't take Strawberry Shortcake seriously since she started hanging out with that tarty Ginger Snap.
Sarah, I have done some in the past, and I had the same experience. One reason I'm thinking about doing programs again is because the books aren't circing at quite the rabid rate they once were. Also, we (by "we," I really mean "other staff members") just reclassed all the books so they're in one area. Seems like the timing is right.
Robin, It is often true that the kids have better clothing choices than we do, which is completely unfair. I mean, they're all cute by default. Their cute clothes just rub it in.

Who needs a Disney channel star when you've got Jason?
Posted by: Saints and Spinners at July 11, 2009 02:28 PM
Oh, no, Farida. I kind of hope he doesn't read that. I don't want him to start demanding a trailer or mineral water or whatever.
Posted by: adrienne at July 11, 2009 04:49 PM
Oh, I've seen all of those girls who are into Star Wars. But you have a untapped gold mine in the American Girl fans. :)

How many boys go to the American Girl parties? Some activities bring girls and boys, others just boys or girls but not both.Still other programs don't bring anyone--much less half a thousand.
Posted by: momster at July 12, 2009 01:22 PM
I think Jason knows better than to demand mineral water. He's Mennonite. Mennonites are supposed to be humble.
Speaking of Mennonites and humble...
Years and years ago, when my mom wore a covering, she went into the local Mennonite bookstore to buy a replacement head covering. She asked for one in size "small". The shopkeeper looked at her quizzically, then went back and got a head covering so large that it covered the ears. My mom sputtered, "What, this is the smallest head-covering you have?"
"No," the shopkeeper replied. "The sizes come in small, smaller, and smallest."

O, I'd kind of rather do a straight-up tea party storytime or maybe even a princess program. I'll have to think on it. I have these big plans to do a series of Dewey programs this fall, so that's probably going to wind up taking up most of my programming time outside storytime.
Momster, I have never known a boy to come to an American Girls program, but I bet it happens somewhere.
Farida, Funny--and Jason would make demands even so, but instead of mineral water, he would probably demand that hideous Vault soda he's always drinking.
Posted by: adrienne at July 12, 2009 09:05 PM
Yes.A few very brave,uninhibited boys.
Tea parties remind me there is a new "Alice In Wonderland" film coming out,or it is out--with Johnny Depp. But I doubt it will be a good one for tiny tots :-0
