Storytime in the Park, Week One
It was chilly, the grass was wet, but the rain held off and we even had some sun.
"Jumping and Counting" from Jim Gill's Irrational Anthem
Jason plays this. At one point, I forgot to count along with the kids because I was trying to count the kids, who were jumping. Getting stats is one of the hardest parts of my job.
"Two Little Blackbirds"
Have I told you all yet of my discovery of the verse "Two little blackbirds sitting on a cloud/one named quiet, ONE NAMED LOUD"? Because I love it.
"Mr. Wiggle and Mr. Waggle"
Jason sometimes expresses interest in learning this story, but I always tell him NO because it is my favorite.
Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch, illustrated by Michael Martchenko
This is one of Jason's favorites, and he does a great reading. My favorite part is when the dragon can't breathe fire anymore.
"Little Bunny Foo-Foo"
One of the kids held her hands over her ears for the ENTIRE song. I try not to take that sort of thing personally.
Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld
We've read this a couple times in storytime now, but this time *I* was for the rabbit and Jason was for the duck. As usual, I won.
"All Join In"
I love this song Jason does based on Quentin Blake's poem.
The Doghouse by Jan Thomas
I think I may be falling more in love with Thomas's books the more I read them.
"Little Miss Muffet"
"Humpty Dumpty"
"Shake Your Sillies Out"
Jason plays this, although based on the available evidence, I believe it is not possible for him to shake his sillies out.

Speaking of Jan Thomas, I have a confession, which makes me feel quite, quite guilty. Guess I need to 'fess up to Fuse, too:
Post-Jan Thomas interview, I got the ARCs of her new titles in the mail, to be released in something like August and November. Since you all contributed to the interview, I feel it's only fair to share them, but at this point, if they left our house, the girls would KILL. ME. They are in love. with. them. I'd send 'em to you and buy my own for them, but they are unpurchaseable now and all that.
Maybe after some time passes, they'll let me share them with you. Seriously, they want to read them every day.
The loud/quiet two little blackbirds=perfect!

p.s. I always feel the for the children's librarians at our library who are silently counting the people in the room, getting those stats. I always want to jump up and help them.

Jules, We cannot upset the girls. Then they won't send me more art.
I almost asked one of the patrons to count for me, but then I remembered my favorite math skill, "estimation."

I think All Join In, as well as Mr. Magnolia, are on our all-time top 10 picture books. It makes me and Eleanor laugh every time. I didn't know either one though when I was doing storytime, so it will be nice when I can get back and read them again. And I love that version of the blackbirds too!
I think I told you, our library has had Jim Gill several times - I've hosted him 3 times. It's kinda embarassing how giddy I get ;)

Sigh, I wish we had enough space to do concerts at our library. I can't fit enough people in to justify the expense.
You know, I don't think I've read Mr. Magnolia. I must rectify this.

Thanks, Miss A! I wish I could come to storytime in the park.

I wish you could come, too!

Shaking the sillies out of Jason would seriously damage the warp and weft of the fabric of existence.
I wish I could be at your storytime too!
