New Column on the MCLS Website

Eureka! I’ve done it! I’ve gotten a new column up on the MCLS website within a reasonable period of time! I’m still a bit of a menace with the formatting over there, but “Little Women for a New Age” is ready to read even so.

Lovely article.

Agh! There I was *right in your very library* yesterday without realizing not only that there is a second Penderwicks book, but that you have it ON THE SHELF.

Thanks, Deb! Figures about the book. Usually what happens to me is I go to look for a book only to find it was just checked out.

Love the article, Little Women, and the Penderwicks! I feel like Batty most of the time :).

I loved the column.Little Women was a fav of mine.I liked the sense of family. But it certainly doesn't reflect a modern sensibility, as you point out.Anyway, your column also made me laugh in parts.Kudos :-)

Jama, Like Batty, I really, really want my stories before I go to bed at night. Also, I love wagons.

Momster, Thank you--I am always glad to know I am amusing someone besides my own self. ;)

Love those Penderwick girls. Can't wait for more.

Do you know that -- gasp -- I've never read Little Women. AND I'M A CHILDREN'S LIBRARIAN.

Will you still speak to me?

Great piece! Very true re: Penderwicks. Loved how to-the-point you were in the piece.

Did I ever tell you about the illustrated version of Little Women in which Beth lived?

I know.

I KNOW.

Little Willow, Thanks, and WHAT about Beth? They can't change Little Women. For heaven's sake.

Oh, you are truly truly truly a girl after my own heart. And if Ms. Birdsall doesn't finish the next P.Wicks soon I'm going to have to up-like-Beth and die!

Liz, I just had to tell a young patron today that there was not in fact another Penderwicks book yet. She was HUGELY disgusted by this state of affairs, I can tell you. Her next question was about the new Mysterious Benedict Society book, which was checked out, so it was just not this girl's day at the library. I did finally manage to get her something she wanted, but I had to use all my mad librarian skillz to do it.
