What I Did for Stories and Art Today and How It Worked Out

“Longer “Open Them, Shut Them”
“Read this with Gestures” by John Ciardi
“Mittens for the Snow Time”

The Doghouse by Jan Thomas
“Duck is uh… Duck is… well… Duck is NOISY!”

“Funny Little Snowman”
With the puppets.

The Mitten by Jan Brett

“Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed”

The Little Dump Truck by Margery Cuyler, illustrated by Bob Kolar
This was my first time reading this to a group, and I think it’s a winner. The kids reacted to the rhymes, which are inventive and surprising, and we really, really enjoyed talking about the different types of trucks on the endpapers.

“Sticky, Sticky Bubblegum”
Quote of the day: “Miss A! Miss A! I have ONE HUNDRED pieces of pretend bubblegum!”

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault, illustrated by Lois Ehlert
The young’uns supplied the “BOOM BOOM,” and at the end we practiced the lower case letters of the alphabet with this way cool storytelling kit I have. At the beginning of storytime, some of the kids were all, “Miss A, what is that tree?” And then others were like, “That is a coconut tree.” And one little Smartypants said, “Chicka, chicka!”

“Five Little Snowmen”
Simple counting rhyme I do with these little knitted snowmen finger puppets I have but had forgotten about for, oh, maybe three or four years. Do any of the rest of you do this thing where you run into something you used to use all the time but had forgotten about? For me, it’s always like, “Oh, YEAH, I used to LOVE this thing!”

I want to come to one of these!

Piper's birthday is soon, and she's going to have a party at the little art studio where she takes classes every weekend. Her teacher, who'll be hosting, asked what art projects she wants to make with her friends at her party. Answer: "ANYTHING WITH GLITTER GLUE!"

The entire party is now being organized around glitter glue.

Jules, Arguably, ALL parties should be organized around glitter glue. I love the stuff myself.
